Risk is “an action that exposes you to the possibility of loss or injury.” (“Risk Is Right” in Don’t Waste Your Life, 79.) “Possibility” is a key word. If you know what you will suffer, it’s called sacrifice, not risk. God requires both from us. God demands a life of intentional sacrifice (Philippians 2:4-8), and he demands risk for the gospel—in smaller ways of dying daily (1 Corinthians 15:31), and possibly in the bigger way of martyrdom (Luke 14:26).

10 Ways to Improve Your Relational Ministry

One of the best investments you will ever make in youth ministry is the time spent on developing relationships with your students. I speak with youth workers all the time who get caught up in programming or administrative duties and have a hard time connecting with teens. My hope is that this post will help provide you with some practical ideas that will enable you to fight the paperwork and will empower you to lengthen your relational stride.

I want to share with you 10 ways you can improve your relational ministry:

1. Personal invite - We send out our fair share of mass mailings and texts but there is nothing like a personal invite. Take a moment before your next event and personally text your students. You might be surprised at the response you get.

2. Worship together - If you are not leading on-stage during your next worship service take the opportunity to sit with your students. You'll never know how much worshiping with your teens will mean to them.

3. Meet the parents - There doesn't seem to be as many youth workers making home visits these days as there use to be, but arranging a visit to the home of your student will go a long way in building a relationship with both the parent & the student! You'll learn a lot about the family dynamics too by showing up on their turf. (Note: give the parents a heads up that you plan to stop by. Most people don't like surprise guests)

4. Host a group - I frequently have groups of teens in my home. I love to host bible studies or impromptu fellowship opportunities. Why not host a small group or invite a group of teens to your home (with appropriate adult-to-student ratio) and share life together.

5. Visit them at work - You can show your support for teens on the job! Find out where students work (whether that be a fast food restaurant, clothing retailer, or coffee shop) and when they work, and drop by for a quick visit.

6. Waiting period - Arrive early or plan to stay late after your next event to spend some time to chit-chat with teens on-site. Making the most of this time to have intentional conversations with students will go a long way in growing your relationship with them.

7. Prayer - I love praying for my students and I take the opportunity very seriously. Offer to pray for your students and then make sure to follow-up later to see how God worked through prayer. The prayer investment will prove very meaningful to your relationship.

8. Social media - Comment or reply on your student's facebook page, twitter, or whatever social medium they use. You can learn a lot about a teen by what you read on their facebook, but take a few extra moments to make some comments on their wall (whenever appropriate).

9. Hobbies - Attend a sporting event, concert or do some other activity together with your teen. This opportunity will not only help you do something fun with the teens in your ministry but it will help improve your relationship with them.

10. Sharing - Take some time to share with your students. Give some focused attention to a teen and get to know them. Be willing to share your story with them too. When you hear them out you might find that you have a captive audience to be able to share more about your life. Most teens want to get to know you as much as you want to get to know them.

Proving Our Love to Him

“You must set aside a tithe of your crops—one-tenth of all the crops you harvest each year. Bring this tithe to the designated place of worship—the place the Lord your God chooses for his name to be honored—and eat it there in his presence. This applies to your tithes of grain, new wine, olive oil, and the firstborn males of your flocks and herds. Doing this will teach you always to fear the Lord your God." (Deut. 14:22-23)

I know there are many thoughts and views about tithing, but based on Scripture, its hard for me to believe that someone is obedient and in love with God, if they neglect to tithe. Today, my reading from the Life Application Study Bible reveals the purpose and proof of tithing.

Scripture teaches us to fear the Lord or revere the Lord and put him first in our lives. We are to give God the first and best of what we earn. For example, what we do first with our money shows what we value most. Giving the first part of our paycheck to God immediately focuses our attention on him. It also reminds us that all we have belongs to him. A habit of regular tithing can keep God at the top of our priority list and give us a proper perspective on everything else we have. Tithing is one spiritual act of worship or "worth-ship."

If you, as a redeemed child of God, are not tithing, you are short-changing God, and you are missing out on an opportunity to express your love to God. He doesn't need your money, but He desires your heart. We need to tithe to express our heart.

The New Testament documents it this way: They even did more than we had hoped, for their first action was to give themselves to the Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do. Since you excel in so many ways—in your faith, your gifted speakers, your knowledge, your enthusiasm, and your love from us—I want you to excel also in this gracious act of giving. I am not commanding you to do this. But I am testing how genuine your love is by comparing it with the eagerness of the other churches. (2 Corinthians 8:5; 7-8)

How genuine is your love? Are you a cheerful giver?

May we never neglect the opportunity to prove our love for the One who willingly proved His love for us by giving Himself!

A Call to Respect, Love, and Service

12 “And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the Lord your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul. 13 And you must always obey the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good. (Deut. 10:12-13)

My YouVersion reading today sparked my attention to share with you the simplicity of our call as believers. Often we ask, "What does God expect from me?" Here Moses gives a summary that is simple in form and easy to remember. He stressed that the law was not merely an outward ritual of sacrifice and festivals; but a heart attitude and a lifestyle of respect, love, and service for God.

Here are the essentials: (1) Fear God; (2) Live in a way that pleases him; (3) Love him; (4) Serve him with all your heart and soul; and (5) Obey his commands.

Too often we complicate faith with man-made rules, regulations, and requirements. We begin to attach the world's definition of "successful faith" to God's plan. Are you frustrated and burned out from trying hard to please God? Do you feel guilty because you cannot seem to keep up with the "religious" requirements that others deem necessary for you to be in right standing with God?

In Deuteronomy 11, God directed this call to the essentials most forcefully at the older Israelites who had witnessed first-hand His mighty acts along the way from Egypt to Canaan. Even the Children were held accountable. Failure to love, obey, and serve God would bring God's curse on both the people and their land. (Deut. 11:16-17)

Are you concentrating on His real requirements? Real peace is found "only" by the way of... Respect, Follow, Love, Serve, and Obey.

11 Questions Church Leaders Should be Asking

A friend in ministry recently asked me what questions church leaders should be asking. I thought about the types of questions I try to help answer when I’m working with them in the church consulting or coaching relationships. Here are the first questions and some bonus thoughts that came to mind:

1. When was the last time I heard from God?

2. Am I doing what he called me to do? This is the “Acts 6″ question. Acts 6 is a great reminder that it’s possible to be doing the ministry of God without doing the ministry God has called us to do.

3. What should our church be known for in this community? For a moment, ignore anyone who attends your church. What does the rest of the community know about your church? That’s a better reflection of whether or not you’re really accomplishing your vision.

4. Are we really focusing our time, money, leadership, prayer behind the things that will produce life change and community impact? If not, there’s a good chance that “fairness” is driving these decisions. Fairness never produces revolution.

5. Is our church growing both spiritually and in numbers? Churches that are stuck and not bearing fruit hate this question. As I’ve shared before, I don’t believe healthy churches are necessarily big churches, but healthy churches are growing churches.

6. Is there a clear path to help people take steps in their faith with the ultimate goal of them becoming fully-devoted followers of Christ? Having a vibrant Sunday worship experience is only one component of that. I’m amazed at how many churches haven’t really established a discipleship strategy beyond Sunday morning.

7. Have you taken the time to identify what a fully-devoted follower of Christ looks like? Most churches haven’t done this, so they end up just “doing church” without any intentionality of purpose or process.

8. Are you empowering the people of God to do God’s work? This is the “Ephesians 4:12-13″ question. Declining churches pay people to do all the ministry. Growing churches challenge people to use their gifts.

9. Are you developing leaders? This includes both spiritual discipleship and leadership mentoring, and I think it’s what’s going to distinguish the churches that last longer than one generation.
Is my community any different because of my ministry? We may need a whole new set of measures to confirm whether or not our churches are really making an impact.

10. Do believers see their ministry happening only at the church or have they become missionaries to their families, their neighborhoods, their workplaces, their schools, etc.? Honestly, I’m really tired of Christians thinking God saved them to go church on Sunday and then eventually experience Heaven. Our purpose is much bigger than that.

11. Do I have the right leaders around me to accomplish the vision? Read Exodus 18:18-23. This isn’t some new business leadership principle. This is biblical advice that’s been around for thousands of years and still applies today.

Those are the first questions that popped to my mind. What are the questions you are asking as a leader in the church?

My Amazement of Joseph
Gen 45:4-8
Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Come close to me.” When they had done so, he said, “I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt! 5And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you. 6For two years now there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years there will not be plowing and reaping. 7But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.
8“So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me father to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household and ruler of all Egypt.

I am amazed each time I read this passage of scripture where Joseph reassures his brothers (still in semi-shock) that he has no hard feelings, but feels God has overruled their evil plot so as to guarantee Israel that they will indeed be a great nation. Joseph's ability to forgive is but one part, but to have developed the spiritual maturity to understand that all the horrific circumstances in which he faced was only in the bigger plan of God to save the nation of Israel through the suffering of this one man.

However, God's love and plan spread much deeper and wider than even Joseph would have imagined in that through one man, God's Son Jesus, the whole world could be spared due justice by such suffering.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. (Jn 3:16-18)

The sacrifice has been made and the forgiveness issued. Do you believe? Have you been saved from eternal torment by the forgiveness of your sins by God's sacrifice, Jesus Christ? Do you understand the depth of His sacrifice, pain, and love? Trust today in the One who came to seek and save that which was lost... you and I!

Instead, students could take classes from the comfort of their homes or a neighborhood coffeehouse, as teachers convey lessons via the Internet. This is a snapshot of virtual public schools in Massachusetts, which could open as soon as this fall, enabling hundreds of students to take all their classes online. The schools are being developed under a little-known provision of the state’s sweeping education law enacted in January. The law, which urges districts to pursue innovations, gave local school committees authority to create public schools that operate almost entirely in cyberspace. Are You In A Cave?

Recently, Robin Dugall posted the following devotion on the Homeword site. I was reminded that "God molds and shapes us in The Cave like nowhere else" and that "He is able to bring new life out of the most desperate of circumstances." What is God teaching you and how are you being encouraged by Jesus in moments when you are in the Cave?

David left Gath and escaped to the cave of Adullam. (1 Samuel 22:1)

Discouragement is a common emotion to us and is one of the great enemies of the Christ-following experience. It is an enemy of personal drive and vision. It is a cancer that will pull enthusiasm and joy right out of you. But it is also a test, because how you respond to discouragement when things are not going well is one of the most important challenges that you will ever face as a person who loves and follows Jesus.

During the reign of King Saul, a prophet of God, Samuel, anointed young David as the future king of Israel. Even before he became king, the people of the kingdom fell in love with David. Everything he touched turned to gold. He was victorious over one of Israel’s most feared enemies, Goliath. When King Saul struggled with emotional issues, David was there to comfort him. If there was ever a guy who was on a roll, it was David. It appeared that nothing could go wrong for him. Then, one by one, the tables turned. Look over this litany of loss in David’s life:

• He lost his job. He went from shepherd boy to acclaimed warrior to fugitive.
• He lost his popularity, status and income.
• He lost his wife when King Saul gave her to another man.
• He lost his mentor when Samuel died.
• He lost his best friend Jonathan.
• He lost his home. The Bible tells us that he eventually ran to Gath, the land of Israel’s enemies.

After all that David went through, he ended up in the cave of Adullam. He expected a palace but got a cave! Devastating!

Does a cave sound like a place you’ve visited before? The Cave is where you go when all the props, crutches, and all that hold you up gives way; when suddenly, things don’t work out as you’ve envisioned. Maybe you’ve lost a job, financial security, spouse, dream of family life, mentor, friend or health. We’ve all been there. The truth is, sooner or later, everybody logs some serious time in The Cave.

The Cave is where God does some of His best work. God molds and shapes us in The Cave like nowhere else. When you end up in The Cave, I encourage you to embrace it. Why? Because when all you’ve got is God, you quickly come to the realization, that He is enough. Mother Teresa once said, “You’ll never know Jesus is all you need, until Jesus is all you’ve got.” He is able to transform discouragement into encouragement. He transforms fear into confidence. He is able to bring new life out of the most desperate of circumstances. Are you in The Cave? Look for Jesus.

Finding Jesus in Barnes & Noble

Recently, I was moved by a student at a Barnes & Noble in Indianapolis, IN. My family and I were browsing the store, sitting in comfortable chairs to view our “books of choice,” and drinking a Venti coffee from the Starbucks located in the store, when a loud voice echoed throughout the bookcases and display tables… I just have to find him! I need to touch him! I have to see his face. Jesus, where are you? Jesus, I need to see your face? Jesus! Jesus!

A teen boy with special needs escaped three other teens, and his parents and was moving quickly throughout the shelving while yelling, “I need to find him!” By the time they caught him and was able to calm him down, he had already located two employees and drug them to the “Religious and Spirituality” section of the bookstore in hopes that they could help him find Jesus in a picture book. He desired to see the image of Christ and to touch His face.

My 9 year old son looked to me and said, “As funny as that seemed, that was pretty cool. More people should want to see Jesus.” After swallowing deeply and trying to hold back my emotions, “I told Schyler that he was wise beyond his years” and that “many are looking for Jesus, we just fail to show them where to find Him and what He looks like. ”

As I meet people throughout our community, I find that many people are searching for something to fill the void in their hearts and lives, yet they don’t know where to find that unexplainable missing piece of the puzzle. As believers, we know where to find the missing piece; however, we often fail to share the answer with them due to fear and narcissism.

We fail to see that people are hopeless and have no purpose without Christ. We fail to recognize that non-believers need to experience the merciful grace of God and understand the affection and tenderness of the Father. We fail to express to those that are lost that God looks upon the fallen, and seeks to rescue them from the deep and eternal wounds of sin.

We have forgotten that “because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions.” We have forgotten that it is “by grace you have been saved.” (Eph. 2:4-5) We have forgotten that were once obedient to Satan, children of wrath by nature and choice, godless and unclean, separated from God, strangers to the promise, and destined for Hell. We have forgotten that we too were searching for the hope that only Jesus can provide.

What will it take for us to see THE CAUSE for what it really is? What needs to happen for us to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with those who are lost and seeking? Are we prepared to take the time to “Go Wide” by showing someone how they might experience life as it was crated to be? Do we even know how and have the courage to effectively share the GOSPEL message? Are we prepared to take the time to “Go Deep” and walk through the journey with someone and help disciple them? Do we even desire to see Him…to touch Him…to Go into the world and preach the Gospel, so that others might do the same in eternity?

I don’t know if the teen boy found the picture he wanted, but the one that was shared with him by the clerk calmed him down and gave him a sense of peace. If the image of Christ in a book can subside anxiety, give hope, and create a peace in one’s life in a Barnes & Noble Bookstore, how much more can the God of life, hope, and purpose give to someone who’s destitute? Let’s do as God desires and commands… Share THE CAUSE!

My Most Difficult Responsibility

Nelson Searcy just posted "FDR on Sermon Preparation…" on his blog where he quoted an article on Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who was once asked how long it would take to prepare an address on a particular theme. “That depends on how long you want me to speak,’ the President answered.

“If you want an hour on the issue, I can be ready in two days. If you want thirty minutes, it will take me a week. If you want five minutes, it may take a month to prepare.”

FDR knew that arriving at the essence of a message is one of the most demanding exercises of all and takes more time to refine shorter addresses. I find this the most challenging aspect of my ministry. With my present responsibilities, I choose, prepare, and write curriculum that spans from Nursery-College. There are weeks where I prepare up to 6 talks per week. A new volunteer base has alleviated some of that responsibility; however, I prep a minimum of four talks a week.

FDR states that, “…Arriving at the essence is one of the most demanding exercises of all.” Agreed! I find it very difficult to be the creative speaker that I know that I can be and that God desires, because of the limited hours to focus on a particular message and to develop it in the way that I know it could connect and engage my listeners. I desire the hours in a week to refine my talks to the point where each child, student, and adult would be "caused" to learn and "persuaded" to act upon the God given message.

I teach and preach for transformation; however, I leave many speaking engagements thinking... "it could have been so much better, so much more refined, so much more creative and engaging if only I had the time deemed necessary for that message." Sometimes the creative juices aren't as creative as I would hope. I would love to spend 20 hours on a message like Andy Stanley and many other great communicators I know and listen to; however, that is just not possible at this period and juncture.

I wrestle with this week after week understanding that God uses me despite my feelings of inadequacy after speaking sometimes to hundreds. Part of this feeling sprouts from possessing an "A-type" personality; however, I really do not have adequate time to prepare. But, I also realize that my most difficult responsibility allows me to see God move in some way that I know that it is not me, but Him. I understand that if He can use a donkey to carry His message, He can use me despite my feelings of unpreparedness. At least, no one has fallen out of a window sill like the incident with the Apostle Paul!

If you feel you do not get the time you need to prepare a message, know you are not alone and continue to strive for ample time and quality in what you have been allotted. Know that I am praying for you as I request you to pray for me. And, even though we feel limited, God will continue to use us if we are willing to withstand the pressure and time restraints. Preaching On!

Jesus Is Lord

Let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ. (Acts 2:36)

In the Gospels there is a graphic story of Jesus standing before Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor. At one point in the story Pilate offers to release a prisoner to the Jews. He offers either Jesus or Barabbas (who was a troublemaker and murderer). The crowd asks for Barabbas to be freed. Pilate doesn't know what to do. He asks the crowd, "What shall I do with the man Jesus?" They cry, "Crucify him!"

The question Pilate asked, "What will you do with Jesus?" is still the important question of the day. When people today are confronted with Christ, they basically have four options. Which option have you chosen?

1. Reject Him. Turn your back on Jesus and live your life without Him.

2. Ignore Him. Choose to be an Easter and Christmas Christian. Acknowledge His deity but keep Him out of the practical daily activities of your life.

3. Appease Him. There are the people who go through the motions of Christianity but still keep the lordship of Christ at a distance.

4. Obey Him. If you obey Him you are choosing to make Him Lord of your life. You are no longer in control, He is. You choose to obey His will and His Word.

What will you do with the claims of Christ in your life? If you fall into one of the categories besides obedience, then perhaps it's time to make Him the Lord of your life. If you believe He is Christ the Savior, then your only true option is to make Him Christ the Lord also!

What does Acts 2:36 tell us about what God made Jesus to be?

Assuming that Jesus is Lord (and He is), what will you do with Jesus Christ? Of the four possible options above which option have you chosen?
If you believe that Jesus is your savior then the next step is to make Him your Lord and give him control of your life.

Telling the story of Jesus begins by being available and having a willingness to share, which means being available and obedient to follow where God leads us to share. Telling the story of Jesus isn’t just for a select few, Christians are commanded to share the Gospel message to anyone and everyone. We are to tell the story of Jesus as we go about our normal day.

Telling the story of Jesus simply requires that we accept people for who they are and where they are in life and being willing to share with them about Jesus. Why? People without Christ are without purpose and hope.

We must understand the urgency of sharing Christ. People who do not know Christ are lost in their sin and are dead without Jesus. Also, those without Christ need to know about God’s grace, and as a follower of Christ, you have firsthand knowledge about that grace.

During this series, it is my prayer that you may gain confidence by praying for others and learning to share the basics of the gospel?

Romans 3:23--We are all sinners.
Romans 6:23--There is a penalty to be paid and that penalty is death.
Romans 5:8--That penalty has been paid by Jesus Christ... where He took our place on the cross to pay for our sin.
Romans 10:9-10; 13--To be saved, we must call upon Jesus, confess Him as Savior, and believe in Him alone as Lord. This action requires us to repent from our sin, trust in Him for salvation, and submit to Him.

It seems to me that I am having more and more conversations with Christians today who are feeling abandoned by God. The Bible is very clear that He will never leave us, nor forsake or abandon us. In the midst of controversy and trials, we often feel like we are alone. Jim Liebelt recently blogged about this very subject.

Jim stated, "You’re not alone. In fact, most Christians experience this feeling somewhere along the line. But the reality is that God is always present and His love for you never changes. He loves you just the way you are. You are unique. According to Scripture, you are God's workmanship (Ephesians 2:10). God's love for you is unconditional, unchanging and unending. If you are willing, God will actually use these dark moments to help refine and build your faith."

ACC Student Ministry Open Source Discussion

Following are a list of 5 Open Source discussion questions that will be posed to our IMPACT Students on Sunday evening.

Open Source is a collaborative tool to help foster creative group discussions for a common purpose of benefiting a program or movement. The Open Source format is also designed to help discover creative solutions to real issues/problems... In our case, to stimulate student leadership involvement in the planning and programming process of our student ministry.

A "Discussion Starter" will pose the question and take specific notes of the conversation at each individual discussion circle. Participants are not limited to the specific question posed at that circle, but are encouraged to allow creativity to freely flow.

Participants will rotate in and out of each group discussion at will until they have participated in all five circles of discussions. At the completion of the individual discussion circles, the Discussion Starter will share notes with the entire group where specific plans, strategies, and targets will be established.

Open Source Discussion Circles:

Circle 1. What is a youth group and what does it look like? (Think Big; Dream Big!!!) Is it important to you and your spiritual walk? Why or why not?

Circle 2. What are we not doing that we should start doing to resemble your view of youth group? What are we doing that has gotten stale that we should stop doing?

Circle 3. With the gifts and talents God has given to you, where should you be serving in youth group? What new ministry could or should you start? What will it take for you to begin? What resources are needed?

Circle 4. If you could choose the next message series for IMPACT, what would it be? Why?

Ten Ways To Kill Vision In Your Church

#1 – Pray really small prayers…seriously, don’t ask God for ANYTHING big. He DID put an interstate highway through a sea, demolished the walls of Jericho and brought the dead back to life…but I’m sure He doesn’t do things like that anymore! :-)

#2 – Celebrate the past WAY more than you anticipate the future, thus becoming a museum and not a movement!

#3 – Allow those who have never actually done anything for Jesus dictate to you what they believe you can and can’t do for Him!

#4 – Listen and repond to every critic.

#5 – Wait until everything makes perfect sense before you make a decision.

#6 – Spend more time on blogs than you do in your Bible.

#7 – Become more agenda driven than GOSPEL driven!

#8 – Actually believe that EVERYONE must be 100% happy with every detail.

#9 – Vote!

#10 – Become angry/jealous over what God is doing at other places and become hyper focused on all of their problems, thus overlooking your own!

Kids Need More Than Sports For Positive Growth

If you want your children to flourish, get them involved in extracurricular activities other than sports, new research suggests. Children in fifth, sixth and seventh grades who took part in both sports and after-school activities such as Boys & Girls Clubs, 4-H or Scouts had the highest scores for "positive development" and the lowest scores for risky and problem behavior, according to a study from Tufts University, published recently in Developmental Psychology.

"Positive development" includes measures of competence, confidence, character, connection and caring, the study authors explained. The new study found that those students who only took part in sports had lower scores on characteristics of "positive development" and higher scores on bullying, substance use and depression than students who also took part in youth development activities.

10 (Mythical) Reason Not to Go to Church with (Real) Responses

Reason #1: Everybody in church is a hypocrite.

(No, everybody in church isn't a hypocrite, and your own negativity doesn't make it a reality.)

Reason #2: The church doesn't meet my needs.
(Lots of people in the church are trying hard to meet your needs. Are you looking past these folks or for them?)

Reason #3: Church takes up too much time.
(Sure church takes time. But so does watching the Golf Channel, the NFL, NASCAR, and American Idol. And which is more important?)

Reason #4: They're always asking for money.
(No, they're not always asking for money. And besides, if every guy gave what he should give, the church wouldn't need to ask for money.)

Reason #5: I don't like the preacher.
(The preacher is trying to get through to you. How hard are you trying to let him get through?)

Reason #6: I had a bad experience in the church.
(No place is perfect. You've had bad experiences everywhere: at work, at home, at school, and just about every place in between. But you probably didn't quit work or drop out of school at the first sign of trouble, and if you did give up, the common denominator is you.)

Reason #7: The music is too loud.
(Really?)

Kids Say the Funniest Things

My son told me that I should set up a "Pastor Play Date" at Saddleback to talk ministry with Rick Warren so he could go and tour Legoland in Cali. I never thought of ministry meetings as Pastor Play Dates, but I will from now on. I tweeted Pastor Rick the comment today. He love it and thought Schyler was hilarious.

I think this one topped the "Active Reflexes" comment when referring to struggles with Acid Reflux.

It looks as if the future of wedding ceremonies holds dynamic entrances. If this is true, I think I'll struggle with standing at the altar while everyone else makes their moves down the aisle. It's time to break out the cardboard and work on the "Man in the Mirror" moves to join in on the action! Or, on second thought... I'll just try to keep a straight face and try and control and explosive belly laugh! Fun Stuff!

Awkward Questions About Jesus

Children's Ministry is always filled with awkward moments and questions. This video reminded me when all the girls in G-2 cried because I told them that "All Dogs Don't Go To Heaven!" They were crushed, and I felt terrible. It was even worse when I had to correct "Grandma's False Theology" about "Mr. Bunny" and "Mr. Ed the Horse".

According to statistics, Islam will overwhelm Christendom unless Christians recognize the demographic realities, begin reproducing again, and share the gospel with Muslims. I thought this was an interesting video that should force us to our knees and stir our hearts to reach a lost generation.

HCBC's National Day of Prayer Service

125 Students attended the National Day of Prayer Service at Honey Creek Middle School this foggy morning. Leaders and students alike prayed at the open-mic service for our country, state, and city leaders. Students also prayed for God to move through their school and for a national stand for a Pro-life movement in America. Amazing time of community, donuts, and heart-felt prayers!

Why Do We Let the World Determine the Value of a Person?

Great points by Rick Warren on the Value of People. However his political views are received, Rick got this one right. There are great points for our students to grab onto. Why does the world (esp. media) have to determine the value of a person? Why does it have to be about grades, athletics, or looks? Why can't we accept a person as the perfect creation of our Creator. I am not talking in the sinful state. That's what we do, not what He created us to be. God can take care of the sin. Jesus waits for you receive Him... then you will be transformed into the image He designed.
I am talking about you and I being God's creation, not someone else's! God loves His creation! Jesus died for His creation? Why do we want to re-create His creation? Love as God loves and understand that His Creation has value... in and out of the womb!
